What is Video Processing Unit?

As we enter into the Internet of Thing era, all device is connected and to get used to visionary sense, embedded Vision is gaining more and more popular. Drone, ATM as well as your smartphone, the camera can do more than just video recording and photo taking. They can do machine learning!

Video Processing Unit (VPU) is a specialised processor which records video as input have the computation capacity to carry out heavy processing on the data stream using Machine Learning. An elementary example will be the Object Detection using Convolutional Neural Network.

As you already know, the video made by a series of photos. To process them, we need to compare and extract each smallest information from the series of photos (we call this pixel). By doing so, we were actually performing complex mathematic formula processing to help us to create useful output such as to identify an object. In this example, we able to locate two dogs in the photos.
